Do We Have Any Volunteers Out There?

Anyone volunteering for a VBREA sponsored activity should keep track of their hours on a monthly basis along with the name and date of the activity. Please submit this information to smackay@vbgov.com . This volunteer information brings awareness of what the association is giving back to the City of Virginia Beach as an organization when submitting its annual report to the Office of Volunteer Resources and to City Council.

We want to thank you for your participation

NEWS RELEASE

Virginia Beach Police Department

Municipal Center

Virginia Beach, VA 23456

Operation lookout expanded

The Virginia Beach Police Department is proud to announce a program just for you;

Operation Lookout Expanded.

Our Goal: The goal of “Operation Lookout Expanded” is to make our senior citizens residing in the City of Virginia Beach feel safer in their homes.

*ATTENTION SENIOR CITIZENS*

The “Operation Lookout Expanded” program is a grant which provides funds for the purchase and installation of large –view peepholes.  The peepholes will be provided and installed by Virginia Beach Police Officers from the Crime Prevention Unit.

Who is Eligible?  All senior citizens (50 years of age and older) residing in the City of Virginia Beach are eligible; only private homes or rental properties with the owner’s approval will qualify.

How Much Will This Cost?  There is no cost to have this service provided.

How Do You Qualify?  You must agree to have a Virginia Beach Police Officer from the Crime Prevention Unit conduct a home security assessment.  Upon completion of this assessment, a 180°

large-view peephole will be installed in the front door of the residence.  A Crime Watch Lamp Adapter, 911 Flash–Lite, will be placed into the front porch light.  The lamp adapter can turn any light fixture into a life-saving device.  With two flips of the existing light switch, it activates a flashing light to signal neighbors or to quickly direct Police, Fire, or EMS to a home.

Who Do I call?  Call the Virginia Beach Police Department’s Crime Prevention Unit, MPO Dolly Deans at: 385-1068

SkillQuest, an organization for adults with special needs and is funded through the Department of Human Services, has once again brightened my day. These participants make the most amazing "goodies" and just had an art auction and sale of their treasures in the Virginia Center for Contemporary Arts on October 18th.

Risk Management has been so lucky as to display some of their works which are for sale. One hundred percent of the proceeds go right back into SkillQuest. Attached please see the collection of the most beautiful "book beads" I have ever seen. These book beads slide over the page of whatever you are reading and keep your place while adorning the book spine. When they were first brought into the office, staff members bought all of them right on the spot. I placed an order for another 25 which arrived today.

There is more than book beads in the basket. There are hearty soups, cookie mixes, soaps, lotions, jewelry and doggie treats!

Take a look at the order form that is attached. They do deliver if you are unable to pick up at their headquarters on Investor’s Place in the Pembroke area but please call ahead.

You can always stop by building #22 and make your purchase. I hope to see you soon and remember…..The holidays are right around the corner.
